Accessibly Statement

I believe that an open, transparent, and inclusive municipal government begins with removing barriers to participation. Every resident—regardless of ability, language, or circumstance—should be able to engage fully in local decision-making.

As a candidate for municipal council, my commitment to accessibility is grounded in the principles of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), which affirms the right of the public to participate in and observe council proceedings, access municipal information, and have their voices heard in matters affecting their community.

In alignment with the MGA:

  • Accessible Council Meetings: I will advocate for all council and committee meetings to be held in accessible locations and to provide alternative participation methods (such as virtual attendance), consistent with the public access requirements

  • Accessible Information: I will work to ensure municipal documents, bylaws, and meeting agendas are published in formats that are accessible to all residents, in keeping with the MGA’s emphasis on public availability of municipal information

  • Barrier-Free Engagement: I will support reasonable accommodations for residents who face physical, sensory, communication, or technological barriers when engaging with council or accessing municipal services, in line with the MGA’s intent to promote inclusive and transparent governance.

  • Diverse Communication Channels: Recognizing that not everyone can attend meetings in person, I will provide multiple avenues for input—such as online surveys, community drop-ins, and phone consultations—ensuring broad and equitable participation.

  • Responsive Feedback: I will maintain open lines of communication for residents to request accommodations or suggest ways to improve accessibility, reflecting the MGA’s commitment to citizen involvement in municipal governance.

By embedding accessibility into all aspects of municipal decision-making, we create a council that is not only representative, but also responsive to the needs of all residents.
