Making Parkland County’s Roads Safer: A Commitment to Action

Safe roads are the foundation of strong communities. In Parkland County, too many families have seen the consequences of dangerous intersections and high-collision areas. It’s time for real solutions—through smarter infrastructure, stronger enforcement, and collaboration that puts safety first.

Road safety is one of the most pressing issues facing our community today. For too long, residents in Parkland County have raised concerns about dangerous intersections and high-collision areas, particularly along Highway 60 and Highway 627. These roads are vital to our local economy and daily life—they connect families, businesses, and industries—but they have also become known for the risks they pose. The accidents we’ve seen are not just statistics; they are tragedies that have touched real families and shaken our sense of safety.

As a candidate for municipal council, I believe our community deserves better. We cannot accept the idea that accidents are simply inevitable. Instead, we must take concrete steps to improve road safety through smarter infrastructure, targeted enforcement, and strong partnerships with stakeholders at every level of government.

Infrastructure That Protects Lives

Modern, well-designed infrastructure is one of the most effective ways to reduce collisions and improve safety. On Highway 60 and Highway 627, this means looking at upgrades such as:

  • Improved lighting at intersections to increase visibility at night and during poor weather.

  • Dedicated turning lanes and turning signals to reduce congestion and minimize dangerous left-hand turns.

  • Intersection redesigns that reduce conflict points and slow down high-speed merges.

  • Clearer signage and lane markings to guide drivers safely through busy areas.

These are practical, proven measures that municipalities across Alberta and Canada have implemented with great success. By investing in these upgrades, Parkland County can ensure our roads are designed with safety as the first priority—not as an afterthought.

Enforcement That Saves Lives

Infrastructure improvements must go hand-in-hand with enforcement. Even the best-designed roads cannot protect us if drivers are speeding, distracted, or ignoring traffic rules. That’s why I will advocate for stronger partnerships with the RCMP and provincial authorities to increase enforcement along high-risk corridors. This includes targeted speed enforcement, stricter monitoring of dangerous driving behaviors, and more visible presence in problem areas.

Enforcement is not about punishing drivers; it’s about saving lives. The presence of consistent, fair enforcement encourages responsible driving, reduces risky behaviors, and reminds all of us that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Building Partnerships for Real Change

No single level of government can solve these challenges alone. As a councillor, I will work to bring together the right partners—municipal planners, provincial transportation officials, law enforcement, and community voices—to create lasting solutions. Collaboration is key: Parkland County needs a strong advocate at the table, making sure our local concerns are heard and acted upon.

Why This Matters

Every resident should feel confident that when they or their loved ones travel on our roads, they will arrive safely. Road safety is about more than just infrastructure and enforcement—it’s about quality of life. Families should not fear dangerous intersections on their daily commute. Businesses should not worry about unsafe routes affecting deliveries and operations. And as a community, we should not have to grieve avoidable accidents year after year.

By addressing these issues head-on, we not only prevent accidents—we build stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

My Commitment

As your councillor, road safety is one of my top priorities. Highways 60 and 627 are just the beginning. I will work to identify and address other problem areas throughout Parkland County, ensuring that safety is built into every decision we make about transportation and growth. Together, through smart infrastructure, consistent enforcement, and genuine collaboration, we can create safer roads for today and for the future.
